The third edition of Bonjour India 2017-18 is a four-month-long mega voyage across India that will celebrate Indo-French partnership as well as shape the next decade of human exchange between the two countries. From November 2017 to February 2018, Bonjour India covers around a 100 programmes and projects in over 30 cities across 20 states & union territories. Bonjour India provides a platform for enduring partnerships across the themes of Smart CitizenHigh MobilityGo Green.

Bonjour India is unprecedented given the ambitious scale of its partnership with India. People at the forefront of their fields will share their inspiring journeys as they change society through their innovation and creativity. At events collaboratively organised across cities and disciplines, amid performances, debates, seminars and exhibitions, all audiences will find something that captures their imagination.

With Bonjour India 2017-18, India and France will come together to create, innovate and partner towards a progressive and sustainable future.

French television
Cordless headphones are available within the library. They are dedicated to watching TV in French (TV5 monde and France 24).

Video games
Two PS4 are available in the library. Each of them contains six dematerialized games, which can be played both for fun and French learning.

Workshop and activities
The library offers several activities and workshops throughout the week.

Oral expression workshop
Every Saturday – 12 PM to 1 PM / 3.30 to 5 PM

Writing workshop
Every Thursday – 11.30 AM to 1 PM

Reading club
Last Thursday of the month – 4 PM to 6 PM

Most workshops are free of charge and open to members of the library and students of AFD.

If you’re a school partner of the AFD or an AFD teacher, please contact us to organize a library visit with your class.

General collections
The library offers access to more than 30,000 documents of various categories: novels, French methods, comic books, DVDs, CDs, children documents, magazines/newspapers, the majority of which is freely accessible.

Owing to the specialist nature of the library, most of the materials are in French; however the collection also includes documents in English, Hindi, Bengali, etc.

Special sections
The library includes several special sections:

  • Francophonie section: novels and literary studies written by French speakers of all nationalities (Antilles, Africa, America, etc).
  • India section: a whole section dedicated to the beauties of India (art and crafts, dance, travel guides…).
  • Learner’s library: hundreds of documents classified according to their level of French (A1, A2, B1, B2) thanks to a user-friendly color code.

Document donations
Before donating documents to the library, we request you to read and fill out the donation form carefully (donations that do not meet with the criteria mentioned in this document will be systematically refused).

Vous êtes étudiant ou déjà professeur de français langue étrangère et souhaitez vous former pour obtenir un diplôme d’université reconnu?
Les Alliances Françaises d’Inde, en partenariat avec Le Mans Université et les services culturels de l’Ambassade de France en Inde, vous proposent de suivre un programme de formation de qualité pour développer vos compétences et préparer l’examen du Diplôme Universitaire de Français Langue Étrangère. Une formation diplômante, pouvant se préparer sur trois pôles : les Alliances Françaises de Delhi, de Madras et de Bombay.

Pour qui?
Destinée en priorité aux enseignants de français débutants ou expérimentés mais non diplômés de FLE en Inde, au Népal et au Sri Lanka, cette formation permet à chacun de se former sans quitter ses fonctions et d’améliorer ses techniques d’enseignement. Ce projet entre dans le cadre d’une démarche qualité initiée par la Fondation Alliance française et le ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères.

Pourquoi?
Le DU FLE permet de valider des compétences acquises sur le terrain et d’accéder aux Master 1 et 2 de FLE,  de s’assurer un avenir dans le réseau des Alliances Françaises et les écoles, instituts ou universités enseignant le français, et permet des débouchés dans les métiers du Français Langue étrangère en général.

All the levels are divided in sublevels:

We offer three Trimester courses every year with three quarterly sessions in a year – Jan – Apr (Spring) ; May – Aug (Summer); Sept – Dec (Autumn

Intensive Batch

Classes for Intensive batches are 4 times in a week for 2 hours on each weekday and that of 4 hours on weekends (Sat & Sun).

Intensive course covers total of 8 hours per week

Intensive rhythm allows the student to cover two sublevels in single session like for complete Beginner (A1.1&B1.2) of 108 hours in a session of 3.5 months

With Intensive method, it would take 2 sessions of 3.5 months to complete the whole Beginner’s (A1) level (Parts A1.1, A1.2 & A1.3).

Extensive Batch

Classes for Extensive batches will be 2 times in a week for 2 hours and 2 hours on weekends (Sat & Sun) covering total of 4 hours per week

Extensive rhythm allows the student to cover only one sub-level in a single session like complete Beginner (A1.1) of 54 hours in a session of 3.5 months

With Extensive method, It would take 3 sessions of 3.5 months to complete the whole Beginner’s (A1) level (Parts A1.1, A1.2 & A1.3).

What is Culturethèque?

Culturethèque is the digital library of the French cultural network abroad.
It allows you to:

  • Catch up on the latest editions of your favorite magazines
  • View concerts and shows
  • Listen to lectures
  • Introduce your kids to French with cultural learning materials
  • Read e-books and comics
  • Take advantage of language-learning materials tailored to your needs
How to register?

You first need to register at the nearest Alliance Française Library.
After that you must log on to www.culturetheque.com

On the Culturethèque page, click on “Connexion” on the top right corner and then click on “S’inscrire”. Once the “Inscription” page opens, fill in all your details and click on “S’inscrire” at the end of the page.

You may now enjoy your free 3 weeks access to Culturethèque. However, after 3 weeks, you will need to make a call/visit to your library to provide your details (Culturethèque user ID and library card number) to the librarian.

Once the librarian gets your details, he/she will be able to extend the validity of your free access to Culturethèque until the last date of your library membership.

1. WORLDWIDE – French is far from being the language of France only : more than 200 million people speak French around the globe. French is the main language or one of the main languages in more than 30 countries across the five continents. It is also the second language in the world by the number of countries that have adopted it as an official or administrative language.

2. STUDIES – France is the third most popular destination for studies. 2,78,000 international students visited us last year. You could easily choose Paris to settle down; the French capital has been named “best student city in the world” by QS, the education company, in 2013. But remember that knowing of French will enable you to manage your daily life, meet new people and create real opportunities.

3. CAREER – India is a big country and French companies are among the biggest investors in India. The brands “Renault”, “Danone”, or “Michelin” may sound familiar. This is not surprising as there are 350 French companies in India. They are regularly looking for employees who can communicate in French. If you have the world in sight, French will also benefit you as India is more ans more present in Africa where French is largely spoken.

4. TOURISM – The Eiffel Tower stands just a few hours away from the Taj Mahal. 83 million people visited France in 2013, making it the first tourist destination in the world. They had a chance to try French food, wines, perfumes, fashion, cafés, and the joie de vivre…

5. CULTURE – The French heritage, its monuments, its countryside and art is widely recognized. Are you fond of reading ? France won more Nobel prizes fo Literature than any country in the world. French literature is extremely productive and multicultural. French is the second most translated language in the world as far as books are concerned. Do you like movies better ? Then you could try French cinema. Today France is the third biggest film market in the world just after India.

6. NETWORK – French is taught in every country around the world, France has the largest network of cultural institutions. Planning to start learning French in India ? You can rely on the cultural network of France in the country.

7. SCIENCE – France happens to be one of the major contributors to science with 13 Nobel prizes for physics, 13 for medicine, 8 for chemistry and 11 Fields medals in mathematics. France was also ranked third in the world and first in Europe for the technological innovation of its companies and research centers in 2013 according to the “Top 100 Global Innovation” ranking from Thomson Reuters.

8. MEDIA – French is one of the most used languages on the internet. French is also the third language on the collaborative knowledge website Wikipedia. TV5, France 24,Radio France Internationale, AFP. French medias cover all major topics in the world and give you a new way of looking at the world.

9. INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS – French is one of the two official languages of the United Nations, the UNESCO, the inter nation Olympic Committee, the international Red Cross, etc… Knowing French is essential for a career in an international organization. Over one-third of the UN’s members are part of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (International Organisation of French-speaking countries).The OIF is composed of 77 states and governments ans is active in international relations. Human Rights, education, research, cooperation and sustainable development.

10. MORE – learning French will help you learn other languages, especially Romance languages, such as Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or Romanian. English speakers should also know that French has provided more than 50% of the current English vocabulary.
